Matt Smith – The Tourism Smith
Matt’s career in tourism development and marketing spans four states and territories and began in 1995 with a Bachelor of Business in Tourism awarded by Southern Cross University. Prior to this, he spent time getting his hands dirty in agriculture and in the fast-paced world of FMCG retail.
Matt has owned and operated a restaurant and held specialist and management positions in Tourism with Local Government (NSW), Regional Tourism (Victoria) and State Government (Queensland & Northern Territory).
In recent years Matt delivered niche tourism marketing and development initiatives for Tourism Queensland. Highlights include business and product development work with Queensland winemakers and Arts blockbuster marketing campaigns, including the Picasso & his collection Exhibition and an exclusive season of the Paris Opera Ballet.

Additional to his campaign and project management work, Matt has extensive experience working with small tourism operators at a grass roots level across areas including feasibility, accreditation, growth strategies and international marketing activities. Matt is a current Judge for the Queensland Tourism Awards and is an advocate for the development value of awards programs.
